ETA Grant Products

To enhance the accessibility of federally funded resources for users, the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Grant Products offers an assorted selection of high-quality products derived from a broad spectrum of national workforce development programs authorized and financed under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

  • Event Summary

    The Alamo Community College District team, whose goal is to expand apprenticeship in the healthcare sector,presented an issue of partnership development. They wanted to explore how grantees can motivate potential employer partners to engage with grant staff to implement apprenticeship programming. They tried identifying strategies for enhanced training partner engagement andbrainstormed ideas on howgrantees can motivatepartners to mobilizebased on previously madecommitments.

    The University of Louisville team, joined by over 30 peers from the Apprenticeships: Closing the Skills Gap program, presented an issue of honing their marketing and outreach strategies to better connect with employers. They wanted to explore how to increase potential employers’ awareness of their Modern Apprenticeship Pathways to Success (MAPS) program. Please note that this event was not recorded.

    The University of California, Riverside Extension (UCRX) team presented an issue of low starting wages being offered by some employers they approach for apprenticeship, which negatively impacts potential apprentices’ interest. They wanted to explore with their peers how to address this issue with potential employers to increase the starting pay to better reflect the valuable skills gained by their apprentices through the UCRX program.

    Grantees had an opportunity to learn about how employers manage recruitment, training, and upskilling in the current economic conditions, dubbed by some as the “Full Employment Recession.” This title is in relation to the fact that unemployment is at a historic low, yet multiple other signs of a recession are present, such as two successive quarters of declining GDP.

    This webinar provided participants with understanding of the definition of mentoring and how it contributes to registered apprenticeship, successful techniques for selecting and training mentors and best practices in mentorship and concrete examples of mentoring experiences in registered apprenticeship. The presenters also answered specific questions regarding mentorship for grantees.

    This interactive session built upon the Employer Engagement (Part 1) held July 8, 2021. Grantees used this session to practice the strategies they learned for engaging employers. Using a consultative sales approach to building transformational relationships, grantees reviewed practical strategies to engage employers including virtual engagement strategies.
